I learned about the work of One Vibe Africa back in 2011 through founder Simon Okelo. I was excited about the work that the organization was doing around youth empowerment, skill building, and community organizing on the continent. As an Ethiopian-American woman, I understand the importance of giving youth the necessary tools to build a future that is self-directed and meaningful for them.

In 2012, I had the opportunity to visit Kisumu, and see the programs in action firsthand. I was able to meet the youth involved, and experience the difference One Vibe was making in their lives. In the years since then, I have watched the organization grow, and had the great pleasure of performing at the 2017 Madaraka Festival at the MoPOP in Seattle. The event was one of the truest Pan-African experiences I have ever had, and the audience participated with a heartfelt commitment that was inspiring.
